About Alpha Group » History
History of Alpha Group

Alpha Group was established in 2007 by nine of Canada’s leading financial institutions with the aim of increasing the country’s equity trading efficiencies and making Canada more globally competitive. Alpha’s partners are all major players in the Canadian securities industry. The nine partners are: BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc., Canaccord Capital Inc., CIBC World Markets Inc., Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Desjardins Securities Inc., National Bank Financial Inc., RBC Dominion Securities Inc., Scotia Capital Inc., and TD Securities Inc.

These partners provide stability and growth potential from both a financial point of view, and from an operational point of view. Alpha’s partners have been committed to seeing Alpha become a “best of breed” alternative trading system.

Alpha creates substantial efficiencies due to it's smaller size and state of the organization. Alpha has introduced significant cost savings and superior technologies to the Canadian industry. Alpha operates for the benefit of all participants, including the trading public and offers better execution, increased liquidity and reduced latency through advanced technology.
